Multi Functional Pliers

Pliers are tools used to hold objects firmly. Some types of pliers also have a cutting function. There are different types of pliers, but they all have handles and a part for clamping the material, called "jaws". The jaws are leveraged and can produce a great clamping force.

Use of pliers:

Under normal circumstances, the strength of the pliers is limited, so they cannot be used to greatly increase the power of the human hand. Pliers are useful in tight spaces where the hand cannot access the work. When using the smaller sized or needle-nose pliers, the jaws can be damaged if too much pressure is applied.

Diagonal pliers, also known as wire cutters, can be used to cut wire. Never use standard pliers for wire cutting tasks.

The handles should be gripped with the hand only. Do not used other methods of force.

Operate pliers with the dominant hand. Turn the jaws toward the inside, which makes it easier to control the clamp or cut the edge.

The jaws of the pliers can also be used to cut rubber or plastic insulation surrounding the wire, as well as cutting the wire itself. Apply the blade against the surface, move the blade back and forth several times, then lightly pull and the wire, otherwise it will break. Pliers can be used to cut various gauges of wire.

Do not use pliers as a hammer.

Rules for the safe use of pliers:

1. Ordinary pliers cannot cut piano wire unless the pliers are specifically designed for this function.

2. Do not place pliers too close to a heat source or annealing will occur and the tool will be damaged.

3. Cut with the correct angle, do not hit the handle of the pliers or use a clamp on the head.

4. Do not use light pliers as a hammer, or hit the pliers handles. If such abuse occurs, pliers will crack, break, or the jaw may collapse.

5. Do not use light pliers to curl hard steel wire. The tip of the nose can be damaged if the wire is too thick. Sturdier tools should be used instead.

6. Do not extend the length of the handle to achieve greater force. Instead use larger pliers or cutters.

7. Pliers cannot be used on nuts and screws. For these jobs, it is preferable to use wrenches. Pliers may damage the fasteners.

8. Regularly apply oil to the pliers, particulary to the hinge. Doing so will not only extend the service life, but will also ensure the pliers work with little exertion.

9. Always wear goggles to protect your eyes when cutting wires.

10. CAUTION WARNING: The sleeve on the handle is to increase the comfort of use only. Unless it is a specific insulated handle, these tools are not resistant to electricity and cannot be used for live work.
